Peels in the summer: how to avoid pigmentation

Chemical peels are one of the most popular procedures in the cosmetologist’s office, which allows you to effectively solve a wide range of aesthetic problems:

  • Age changes
  • Photoageing
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Uneven surface of the skin, scars
  • Hyperkeratosis
  • Enlarged pores, oily skin
  • Acne, acne scars
  • Dryness and dehydration of the skin

Accordingly, the available products in the facialist’s arsenal for the peel procedure are constantly being diversified and improved to ensure the best result for each clinical case.

A peel is a set of mechanical, device-based, chemical methods of exfoliating the skin with the aim of removing dead epithelial cells and starting natural regenerative processes in the skin.

Peel is an autumn-winter procedure that should not be performed in the summer. Is it really so?

Cosmetologists know – this statement is not entirely true! But how to explain this to customers?

With the help of acids of various types, concentrations and in various combinations, peels allow you to exfoliate the upper stratum corneum of the skin. The epidermis is renewed – younger skin cells are “exposed”. The skin becomes more sensitive to the negative effects of UV rays. Since the activity of the sun is much higher in summer, the risk of post-peel hyperpigmentation also increases.

However! During the summer, the skin is already stressed due to heat and active ultraviolet rays. To prevent unwanted pigmentation, daily sunscreen and limiting exposure to the active sun during this period are necessary conditions.

In addition, the negative consequences of the peel procedure can be obtained at any time of the year, not only in summer:

  • In case of incorrectly selected products, without considering the clinical picture, skin condition and lifestyle of the patient
  • In the absence of proper preparation for the peel procedure
  • If the patient does not comply with post-peel care, including the use of products with SPF

The degree of chemical peel influence on the skin depends on several factors:

  • The chemical nature of the peel (which acid or combination of acids is used)
  • Concentration of acids in peels (% content in the composition)
  • pH level
  • Additional enhancers and other auxiliary substances among the ingredients
  • Exposure time and number of layers
  • General condition of the patient’s skin at the time of the procedure

So, if you consider these factors, follow the protocol of the procedure and mandatory home care – there is no need to postpone solving skin problems for several months.

Especially since not all acids increase the photosensitization of the skin!

What peels can be done in the summer without the risk of pigmentation?

A beautician can safely work with peels even in the summer. But all-season surface peels should be chosen.

All-season peels have three most important factors – the choice of acids, their percentage, and their pH- that do not cause photosensitisation!

Photosensitisation of the skin is an increase in the sensitivity of melanocytes to UV rays, which leads to increased synthesis of melanin, hyperpigmentation of the skin.

The Reneo Cosmetics PEEL-EXPERT line is 100% effective, reliable and safe!

The perfect ratio of acid concentration and pH allows you to work in the desired layer of the epidermis. Combinations of active components have a targeted effect on cells.

  • Peel Expert M and Light work in the stratum corneum of the epidermis. They exfoliate keratinocytes, replenish a natural moisturizing factor, stimulate cell recovery and renewal.
  • Peel Expert Shine, Chroma activate exfoliation processes in the stratum corneum + 2-3 rows of granular keratinocytes. During the action of acids and additional components, signal molecules are formed that activate basal keratinocytes to renew the skin and normalise the work of sebocytes. Melanocytes remain at rest and are not activated during this time, making these peels completely safe during periods of intense sun exposure.
  • Peel Expert Shine and Chroma, on the contrary, control the work of melanocytes. Active components block melanin synthesis by melanocytes.

And don’t forget about daily sun protection! Melanocytes and other cells remain protected from the negative effects of rays. The beautician sleeps peacefully.
